It’s been a little while since we’ve heard new music from Beth Orton — her last album, ‘Weather Alive’, dropped in 2022 — but she’s back with a brand new single, The Ground Above, out now via Partisan Records. And yeah, it was worth the wait.
The track arrives with a visualizer that’s just as contemplative as the song itself, and Orton has given us one of those quietly devastating lines to sit with: “We are all vulnerable beings living out invincible lives.” That’s the kind of thing you write down and tape to your wall.
Beth Orton has always had this rare ability to make music that feels both deeply personal and completely universal — folk-leaning, atmospheric, emotionally honest. The Ground Above fits right into that lineage while hinting that wherever she’s headed next, it’s going to be worth paying attention to.
